Three years of styudying Social Sciences, I have heard enough of stereotypes and jokes that Social is lower than Science, I don't believe in this, I have positive thoughts that they are merely stereotypes because I see my classmates as briliannt and bright young generation what we are passionate about. But now that some universities ban us from taking social fields (e.g management and geography) annd allowing Science major students to take ours instead: I start to feel a little disappointed. Knowledge is knowledge, regardless of what you study. It's about how we learn to create innovative solutions to better our community. Well, I understand that Social major and Science major are in different some ways but that doesn't make us lower than Science. That doesn't mean we are what the stereotypes say. - Dhia Fairus Fani
I completely agree with what my senior said above. Sometimes, people always easily judge a group by an individual's ability. That can't be accepted because an individual's ability can't be a standard to measure his/her group. Well, not only two or three times my friends judge or joke about the major that I take, Social. Social different with Science because the subject that we learn is different too. I ever heard a stereotype that Social students are bad in their attitudes. I think people are people, attitude are attitude. We can't judge someone's attitude from the major that they take. Please let us learn in peace, don't press us with a stereotype that we are lower than others.
But in other way, some of Social's students is hide behind a streotype that said not all of Social student are bad. They don't want to be covered like the other Social major, but they do something that make them scored bad. Well, I think kind of students like them just need to find a passion what they want to learn. I've been in Social major for almost a year. I start to know what kind of person my friends are, and their ability too. I found something that they are briliannt and bright young generation just like my senior said.
What should we do to throw out that stereotypes? What do you need? A verification? Challenge accepted.
